Media Management

The Media Management concentration in the Kent JMC master's degree program is designed primarily for students who have professional media experience and are interested in moving into management positions in print, electronic media (radio and television), public relations or new media. The program also will benefit those without professional backgrounds who are interested in acquiring management skills.

Students must complete a minimum of 36 total hours of coursework that includes either a six-credit master's thesis or a three-credit master's project.

REQUIRED CORE COURSES

  • Introduction to Graduate Study in JMC
  • Ethics of Mass Communication
  • Mass Communication Theory
  • Legal Problems in Mass Communication
  • Research Methods in JMC
  • Master's Project, Master's Thesis, or Comprehensive Exam

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL COURSES

  • Media Management
  • Advanced Media Management
  • Public Relations Management
  • Administrative Problems in Radio/TV, or
  • Managing Diversity

PROFESSIONAL PREREQUISITE COURSES
Required only of students lacking the necessary background for the program. These courses will not count toward degree completion.

  • Reporting for Mass Media
  • Editing for Mass Media
