Student Media

The Office of Student Media supports nearly 200 students working in eight different media. Five full-time professional employees, in addition to faculty advisers, assist students in their award-winning endeavors.

Kent JMC students gain valuable experience and sharpen their marketable skills. Many of the positions are paid, enabling the students to focus on their classes and student media experience. In addition to building resumes, Student Media forges student friendships into lifelong professional contacts.

You will find more information on the Student Media web site. If you are interested in working for any of the following student media, you should contact Lori Cantor, Student Media manager, 205 Franklin Hall, 672-2586, lcantor@kent.edu.

THE DAILY KENT STATER & THE DIGITAL STATER
One of the nation's oldest college newspapers, the award-winning Daily Kent Stater circulates 12,000 copies Tuesday through Friday during the regular academic year. The Stater is the leading source of news and information for the Kent Campus' 21,000 students, 3,000 faculty and staff, as well as other stakeholders. The Society of Professional Journalists recently chose the Stater's web edition, The Digital Stater, as the "Best College Web Site in the Region."

THE BURR & THE CYBURR
Three-time winner of "Best Overall College Magazine in the Country" by the Society of Professional Journalists, this popular general interest magazine is published twice during the academic year. The Burr replaced the yearbook in the late 1980s and has a circulation of 10,000 each semester. The Burr staff also produces a digital edition called the CyBurr.

TV2
TV2 reaches both 24,000 viewers on the local Time Warner Cable Channel 28 and 5,000 KSU dorm residents on the campus cable system. The student-run station features live news at 6:30 and live and taped sports, talk and variety programs Monday through Friday during the regular academic year.

BSR (Black Squirrel Radio)
Offered exclusively to the dorms on campus cable channels 4 & 7, WKSR is a multi-format station offering a mix of urban, alternative, talk and more.

UHURU
This well-established publication of Black United Students has grown not only in page count, but also in the quality of content and design. More than 10 percent of KSU's students are minorities, and with a circulation of 5,000 each semester, UHURU speaks directly to this important segment

LUNA NEGRA
Kent's literary publication is a blend of poetry, prose, photography and illustration. Produced twice a year by students in the English Department, Luna Negra is a delightful addition to the Student Media mix.
