NOSPA Contest, Press Day Registration now available online

Student voices will guide this year’s NOSPA Press Day, scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Kent State University.

Responding to student suggestions, workshops at this year’s event will remain at 30 minutes. Participants will again have the opportunity to experience up to six sessions, with topics from across all areas of journalism. Sessions will also be repeated so students have less chance of missing out on a workshop they want to attend.

A speaker prominent in high school journalism will give a keynote address. Watch this space for an announcement of our speaker closer to the conference.

The more than 60 sessions offered include a wide range of 30-minute offerings - writing, photography, design and broadcast - plus two “workshops within the workshop” that last all morning covering InDesign or Photoshop. Early Bird sessions begin at 8:30 with regular sessions starting at 9 and ending at 12:50 p.m. Pre-registered Day-of Contests and campus tours are also part of the event.

Students can choose a lunch break in the Student Center Hub or picnic outside if weather permits. Advisers and speakers enjoy a buffet in the Ballroom Balcony. The keynoter and awards ceremony cap off the day, which ends at 2 p.m.

But first, be sure to enter the NOSPA contest and take advantage of individual critiques of everything from newswriting to personality profiles, computer-assisted art to sports photography, yearbook student life spread and copy to Web sites and news broadcasts.

Besides getting suggestions from top judges from all over the country, you can earn ratings of Superior, Excellent or Honorable Mention for your work. Also enter three copies of your publication and receive a critique book packed with judges' suggestions and praise. Postmark deadline for these is Jan. 19, 2007.

Everything you need to register can be found right here.

Information and registration forms for NOSPA pre-entered contests and Press Day are now downloadable on this Web site. All forms for individual advance contests - more than 30 options for newspapers, newsmagazines, yearbooks and broadcast outlets - overall publication critiques, Press Day registration, including special InDesign and Photoshop workshops and five Day-of Contests, and application for Executive Council - are just a click away.

Notice NOSPA requires each publication or media outlet at your school to become a member. This allows more students to enter competition and more to receive feedback from judges.

• The list of individual CATEGORIES and what judges will be looking for in each.
• Press Day and Contest REGISTRATION form, which includes costs.
