Society of Professional Journalists

Objectives: Our objectives include serving as a watchdog on the media, networking with professionals and with one another and educating, especially in the areas of ethics and changes in the field.

Meetings: We will have meetings every Wednesday at 8 p.m. in 303 Taylor Hall. Throughout the semester, meetings will range from cover letter and resume workshops to movie and pizza nights to guest speakers.

Meet Fall 2005 E-board:

President: Theresa Edwards
Vice president: Jackie Mantey
Secretary/Treasurer: Rachel Abbey
Public Relations: Joanne Bello
Fundraising: Samantha Rainwater
Senior member: Stephanie Smith
Senior member: Jessica Alaimo

Benefits: Younger members benefit by being introduced to Kent State’s journalism program in a low-key environment, and all members can network, making contacts for the future. SPJ can help members get internships or jobs with campus publications, such as the Daily Kent Stater or the Burr. Members also have the chance to attend journalism conferences both regionally and nationally.

Information compiled by Rachel Abbey and Joanne Bello.
