More than 60 persons attended the second annual "ethics road show" for newspaper journalists at the Stark Campus in Canton.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Poynter Institute co-sponsored the workshop.

It included frank discussions, practical tips and real case studies.

Bob Steele and Kelly McBride, faculty at Poynter, lead the sessions. Discussion topics included:

• "Ethics = Good Journalism"
• "Covering Gut-Wrenching Stories: Journalists and Trauma
• "The Ethics of Complex Issues, from Immigration to Abortion"
• "Does Ethics Trump the Law?"
• "Who's a journalist online? Are there ethics in cyberspace?"

Other sponsors of the day-long workshop were the Akron Beacon Journal, Columbus Dispatch, Plain Dealer, Toledo Blade, and Copley Ohio Newspapers.

Kelly McBride and Bob Steele, faculty members at the Poynter Institute, head up the discussions.

Jeff Fruit, director of Kent JMC, gave welcoming remarks to the professionals, educators and students in attendance.
