School of Journalism and Mass Communication co-sponsored a highly
successful seminar on Privacy and Publicity at the Stark Campus of
KSU.
More than 80 journalists, lawyers and students
attended the all-day seminar at the Professional Education and Conference
Center.
Other co-sponsors were the Ohio State Bar Association
Media Law Committee, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Akron Beacon
Journal, and the Canton Repository.
The morning session focused on HIPAA and the Patriot
Act: Too Much or Too Little Privacy?
Panelists included: William M. Todd, of Squire,
Sanders & Dempsey, of Columbus; Ray Vasvari, of Berkman, Gordon,
Murray & DeVan, of Cleveland, and former director of the ACLU;
Paul Kostyu, Columbus Bureau Chief of Copley Newspapers; Timothy
Regula, HIPAA Compliance Officer at Aultmann Hospital; and a representative
from the office of Greg White, Northern District U.S. Attorney.
A
debate on Campaign Finance and the 2004 Ohio Supreme Court was held
during lunch, moderated by Columbus attorney, Benson Wolman.
