Three outstanding professional journalists visited Kent JMC this
semester from Knight-Ridder, CNN and NPR.
John Greenman, president and publisher of the Columbus (Ga.)
Ledger-Enquirer, was here in late February.
He spoke to undergraduate and graduate classes, studied ethical
issues, and served as a resource person for students and faculty.
The former Akron Beacon Journal assistant managing editor for metro
news joined the Ledger-Enquirer in 1995. While at the Beacon, he
helped direct and edit coverage of the attempted take-over of Goodyear
Tire & Rubber. That coverage won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for
General News Reporting.
Carol Costello anchors CNN Daybreak, the cable network's
live early morning newscast. She has reported on the Washington
D.C. sniper case and interviewed former presidents Bill Clinton,
Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush. She was on campus
in early March.
She joined CNN in 2001 from WJLA in Washington and previously worked
at WBAL in Baltimore and WAKR in Akron.
She spoke to classes, met with students, critiqued
student media and met with other university and community leaders.
Carol attended Kent State. She prepared several reporting and producing
video tapes for use during her visit and for us to use after her
week with us is over.
Kevin Klose, NPR president since 1998, participated in an
open, moderated panel discussion on public radio and on the future
of radio news in early March.
