Veteran student reporter still gets 'petrified'
Pam Neroni read and re-read script to prep for try out

By Paul Bucalo

Even though she's a veteran TV-2 sports and weather reporter, Pam Neroni read and re-read her try-out script a dozen times in the hallway leading to the news studio.

"I was petrified," she said. "I didn't know what to expect. I was so happy when I saw my name on that list."

After the Aug. 27 auditions, Neroni finally got her chance to be a news anchor. She'll be on-air for the 5:30 p.m. news cast on Wednesdays.

"I like watching the news, learning the facts and how to present them," Neroni said.

Now Neroni is responsible for five different, 20-second stories a day, submitted into a pool by all of the anchors and chosen for each show by the news producer.

"I haven't anchored before, so it's definitely different for me, writing news stories," she said.

When the anchors are short on stories, Neroni said, they can get snippets from their CNN feed and write a short introduction.

She won't always have a chance to read her script a dozen times before going on air.

"We are supposed to get the script 30-minutes before going live," Neroni said. "Once I read it through and do a run through, that's it."
