MBA grad gives TV news a shot
Garvin Carrington ends up with primetime news magazine slot

Being a TV-2 news anchor would've been another accomplishment for Garvin Carrington to cross off his list of life's goals.

"There are a number of things I've always wanted to do at some point in my career," Carrington said. "I'm always looking to do these things, check one off my list and try something else."

But the broadcast journalism graduate student wasn't chosen as an anchor this semester during TV-2's try-outs Aug. 27.

He'll still be on TV, though, just not as an anchor. He's putting together a news magazine show, a la Dateline, to run on TV-2 for a half-hour once a week.

"My ultimate goal would be national NBC, sitting next to Katie Couric on the morning show," Carrington said.

He's had a variety of educational experiences. He's already earned a bachelor's and a master's degree, both in business.

He's going to graduate school for broadcast just because he wanted to try something else.

"I'm a bit of a news junkie, so this is a natural extension for me," Carrington said at the auditions.
